The Project
Innovative, eco-friendly and affordable apartment homes. Sky Cottages at Timber Sky is an innovative residential community combining high-tech design and efficient, eco-friendly construction to create a new model for affordable rental homes here in one of the most tightly constricted real estate markets in the nation.
The Problem
Encircled by US Forest land, Flagstaff is one of the nation’s most land-crunched metropolitan areas, leading to a crisis in affordable rental housing. Furthermore, the Flagstaff City Council has implemented a stringent climate action plan for all new developments.
The Solution
Led by Vintage Partners, this 23-acre project will feature 200 rental units, with a full 10-percent of the units set aside as part of the city’s affordable housing incentive policy, ensuring that the spaces are still affordable for residents making less than the area’s median annual income.
Vintage Partners also partnered with a construction technology company founded by a former Google executive, to help build the project 30-percent faster and with 20-percent less waste than a traditionally designed project.
Aside from its eco-friendly construction, the Sky Cottages at Timber Sky will be International Dark Sky-compliant, and is also committed to long-term sustainability by ensuring that every home incorporates all-electric appliances and heating (versus propane or natural gas), and select units will offer pre-installed solar panels. Additionally, the development will feature on-site electric vehicle charging stations, as well as a fleet of Rivian electric trucks and e-bikes for residents.
